My drawings explore the sensual and alien qualities of bodily functions and anatomy by abstracting, substituting, or conflating the body with other things in nature that experience similar processes of containment and expulsion, growth and degradation. Although my art is informed by our relationship to our bodies, in many pieces I have consciously departed from the image of the human figure. I often seek inspiration in nature, as a way to explore human experiences, emotions, and urges in a broader context. I hope to find new ways to understand and connect with human experiences by depicting things that resonate on a visceral level, yet are alien or other from our bodies.
