In my recent prints and wallpaper patterns, detritus from around my house and garden is collected and transformed into sensual and decorative designs. I was inspired by a range of Victoriana, from the story The Yellow Wallpaper, in which a woman’s descent into madness is chronicled through her experience watching the wallpaper come alive, to the strangeness and acute craftsmanship of Victorian hair flowers. I am looking for that same balance between awe and repulsion, decoration and sensuality, which those influences evoke in me. |
