Untitled (1895) was created as part of an Invitational Print Portfolio organized by Philagrafika. For this project, I wanted to make a print that is decorative, yet at the same time is sensual, strange, and difficult to place. I was inspired by a range of Victoriana, from the story The Yellow Wallpaper, in which a womans descent into madness is chronicled through her experience watching the wallpaper come alive, to the strangeness and acute craftsmanship of Victorian hair flowers. I am interested in exploring some of that same balance between awe and repulsion, decoration and sensuality, which those influences evoke in me. | |||||||
